Peer Review Process and Confidentiality

UCLA Radiological Sciences Proceedings uses a double anonymized review process. Reviewer identities are not disclosed to the authors or other reviewers. In addition, authors should not contact those whom they presume to be reviewers of their manuscript.

All contributions are initially assessed by an Associate Editor for suitability for the journal. Initial editorial reviews usually are completed within 1 to 2 weeks of manuscript submission. Subsequent to the initial assessment, manuscripts are either forwarded on to peer review or rejected. The Associate Editor may serve as the handling Editor, or they may assign a Section Editor in the specialty area to serve as the handling Editor. Papers that are deemed suitable for peer review are then sent to a minimum of 2 independent expert reviewers to assess the scientific quality of the paper. Original Research articles and those containing statistics may also be reviewed by a statistician to ensure the appropriateness of the methodology.

The journal adheres to COPE's guidelines for peer-reviewers, and strives to provide a fair and unbiased peer review process. An editorial board member who is unaffiliated with the authors will be selected to handle the manuscript and select peer-reviewers who are also unaffiliated with the authors. Peer-reviewers will be selected based on their expertise in the field and also based on maximal elimination of bias.

Manuscripts authored by editors or editorial board members of the journal will be assigned to editors unaffiliated with the author and monitored closely to ensure there is no peer review bias.

Editors who have a conflict of interest related to a particular manuscript must recuse themselves as the handling Editor, in which case the manuscript will be assigned to a new Editor. Editors are blocked from viewing any submissions on which they are authors. In addition, manuscripts authored by Editors must be accompanied by a statement confirming that the Editor had no role in the editorial review of or decision to publish the article.

Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract, a published lecture or academic thesis), that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, including electronically without the written consent of the copyright-holder. To verify originality, your article will be checked by the originality detection service “Crossref Similarity Check”.

Upon receipt of the reviewers' comments, the handling Editor will consider both the Comments to the Author and Confidential Comments to the Editor, along with whether the manuscript meets priority for publication. The handling Editor makes a recommendation to the Editor-in-Chief and may provide additional comments to the authors. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of articles.
